LUDHIANA: Girls have outnumbered boys in the BCom admissions merit list announced by Panjab University on Sunday. The merit list, prepared by Panjab University, reveals that the last boy to get admission in city college is at 1,365 rank, whereas the rank is 1,907 for girls.
One of the reason for boys lagging behind can be attributed to the fact that girls have performed well in Class XII (commerce) exams, but another reason is the fact that the city has only four colleges where boys can apply.

The rest nine colleges are for girls. Interestingly, in these four colleges boys could have grabbed 770 seats but here also 40 seats have gone to girls. Leaving aside one college where no girl could get admission because it is a boy's college and thus all 140 seats went to boys.
Arya College principal T L Joshi said, ''The education system needs to be improved and upgraded. Higher officials should understand that in terms of getting admission, the fight between girls and boys should be fair.' Government College principal Jasbir Makkar said, ''We are giving admission to boys only, but this does not solve the problem. I urge the authorities to add more boys colleges to city or atleast make it equal to that of girls.''
